MORE TRAGEDY FOR SHANIA TWAIN (Celebrity Secrets)
Thursday, April 20, 2006
The brother-in-law of country-pop singer Shania Twain escaped arrest by the Ontario Provincial Police on Saturday by shooting himself in the head.
Jason Bernard Logan, 32, was the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant for violating his parole in Edmonton after failing to report in February. He had previously served 20 months in prison for possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.
Logan was a passenger in a car that was stopped by police for speeding on Highway 17 near Sault Ste. Marie on April 17. He took off into the bush when an OPP officer was about to question him about handgun bullets that were spotted on the car seat. A search was conducted by helicopter and tactical units from as far away as London, but he wasn't spotted until three days later in White River.
When an officer approached Logan, he ran off again. He was found close by shortly after, between two rail cars, lying dead from what police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot.
Neither the OPP nor the province's Special Investigations Unit, which is looking into the incident, have commented on the case. The SIU is responsible for investigating deaths that occur during police operations.
Logan was originally arrested in Edmonton in 2004 with his brother-in-law, Darryl Twain, who's the singer's half-brother.
